HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

"I can't imagine not being able to read"

is the phrase we hear most often from those who come to volunteer with BCLC.

  • Tutor - Attend a free workshop to become a certified Laubach tutor.  Tutors need to be patient, caring, flexible and encouraging.  No background in teaching is required, however usually our tutors enjoy reading.

  • Trainer - Must be a certified tutor and work as an apprentice trainer until certified by Laubach Literacy Action.

  • Clerical/Staff Support - Volunteers are periodically needed to assist with bulk mailings, envelope stuffing, preparing for workshops, receptionist, clerical duties and computer processing.

  • Fundraising - There is a Fund Raising Committee that always needs volunteers to dedicate their time and efforts.

  • Computer Lab - Willing to work with students on the basic principles of computers, computer programs and educational software.

  • Thrift Store - People interested in a retail environment to help organize, sort, tag and price merchandise.

  • Building/Yard Maintenance - Helpers to cut and trim the surrounding property as well as light maintenance work.

  • Board of Directors -   Potential Board members are recommended to the membership by the board and the membership votes for them to be elected for a three year period.  The Board members elect the officers which consist of President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.
